Latino Leaders Honor Julian Castro
True to it's theme of diversity, the 2016 Democratic Convention attracted some of our country's most prominent leaders and activists from every constituency within our party, providing a platform for voices to be on stages, in forums, and at celebrations and events.
Most notable of those was Tuesday's Latino Leaders Network event. In what may be the largest single gathering of latino leaders in the history of the convention, LLN Founder and Chairman Mickey Ibarra hosted a luncheon for 700 featuring a who's who of the latino community.
Special Guests included House Democratic Caucus Chair Xavier Becerra, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Linda Sánchez, Senator Chuck Schumer, former Secretary of Housing and Urban DevelopmentHenry Cisneros, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Civil Rights Activist Dolores Huerta and Eva Longoria.
Through six events annually, the Latino Leaders Network "brings leaders together" to establish relationships, build unity and share their personal stories of obstacles overcome to achieve success.
The 2016 convention event marked the organization's 48th celebration, as well as its 4th during the Democratic National Convention.
Generous support for the Latino Leaders Luncheon Series was provided by the Anheuser-Busch Foundation, NextGen Climate, GEICO, and Southwest Airlines, as well as their community partner VotoLatino.
At the Crystal Tea Room's penthouse ballroom, LLN also presented the Eagle Leadership Award to the Honorable Julián Castro.
"I know that in the years to come we will continue to celebrate so many of the accomplishment of the folks in this room who are also making us proud."
-- Honorable Julian Castro
