In addition to resounding victories in Ohio, Virginia and Kentucky last Tuesday, Democrats swept a number of elections across the country.

In Rhode Island's First Congressional District Special Election, former Biden White House staffer Gabe Amo (D) defeated retired US Marine Corps Colonel Gerry Leonard, Jr. (R) to become the first person of color to represent The Ocean State in Congress. Amo succeeds former Democratic Congressman David Cicilline, who represented the district for nearly 13 years before resigning May 31, 2023, to become the president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation.

Mayorals
Among the 100 largest cities and/or state capitals that held elections November 7, Democrats prevailed in an overwhelming majority of the races.

Tucson, Arizona: Incumbent Mayor Regina Romero (D) won reelection with 60.8%.
Hartford, Connecticut: Arunan Arulampalam (D) won the six-way race with 69.2%.
Orlando, Florida: Incumbent Buddy Dyer (D) won with 72.4%.
Boise, Idaho: Incumbent Lauren McLean (D) defeated Mike Masterson (R), 55.6%-43.2%.
Fort Wayne, Indiana: Incumbent Tom Henry (D) defeated Thomas Didier (R), 51.9%-48.1%.
Indianapolis, Indiana: Incumbent Joe Hogsett (D) defeated Jefferson Shreve (R), 59%-41%.
Des Moines, Iowa: Connie Boesen (D) defeated Josh Mandelbaum (D), 48.2%-45.9%, to become the city's first female mayor.
Concord, New Hampshire: Byron Champlin (D) won with 74%.
Charlotte, North Carolina: Incumbent Vi Alexander Lyles (D) won reelection with 73.6%.
Durham, North Carolina: Leonardo Williams (D) defeated Mike Woodard (D) 63.7%-36.3%.
Columbus, Ohio: Incumbent Andy Ginther (D) won reelection with 64.6%.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Cherelle Parker (D) defeated David Oh (R) 82.6%-17.4%.

Although ballots are still being counted in Washington State, the race in Olympia, Washington has been called for Dontae Payne (D) over David Ross, 70%-30%. Payne, a City Councilmember, will be Olympia's first Black Mayor.

In Spokane, Washington, former State Department of Commerce Director Lisa Brown (D) has unseated incumbent Republican Mayor Nadine Woodward, with an unsurmountable lead of 52.17%-47.82% as of Friday. Elections in The Evergreen State will not be certified until November 28.

The Final Elections of 2023
December 9
: In the high-profile Houston, Texas mayoral, State Senator John Whitmire and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will advance to a December 9 runoff. The two longtime Democratic political leaders secured 42.8% and 36.2% respectively, with the remaining 15 candidates coming in under 7.3%.

November 21: Utah's Second Congressional District Special Election General and the Salt Lake City, Utah Mayoral General Election.
