Four states went to the polls Tuesday to pick their party's nominee in Maine, South Carolina, Nevada, and North Dakota.

MAINE
Primary Elections: US Senate, US House, Governor, State Senate, State House
US Senate: Incumbent Susan Collins, 78, the Senate's most vulnerable Republican, is in the fight of her life. A moderate conservative who has often cast the swing vote on key legislation, she has been re-elected four times in the leaning blue state.
Oyster farmer, veteran, community activist and controversial candidate Graham Platner, who entered the race in August 2025 with the backing of labor unions and progressive leaders, was elected the official Democratic nominee Tuesday night, earning 71.9% of the vote. Governor Janet Mills, who withdrew from the race April 30 after polling showed Platner with a 30-point lead, was still on the ballot and received 19.4%.
That percentage was closely watched as a protest vote against Platner, who has been plagued by scandals from his twenties that included early social media posts and rants against cops, women, and rural Americans, to advocating armed violence, having a Nazi tattoo, and cheating on his wife.
Platner, 41, a former US Marine who did three combat tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, has publicly apologized for the actions, saying they do not represent his current political beliefs and that they were the product of disillusionment after his military discharge and struggles with PTSD. Mainers have embraced the story of his "metamorphosis" since coming back home to Maine.
Governor: Maine uses a ranked-choice voting system for their primaries, which means the results may not be known for a week or two.
In the first round of voting to replace term-limited Democratic Governor Janet Mills, former Director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Nirav Shah (26.8%) and former State House Speaker and daughter of Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, Hannah Pingree (23.3%) were the top two vote-getters in the Democratic primary. They were followed by former State Senate President Troy Jackson (21%), Secretary of State Sheena Bellows (20.6%), and Angus King III, energy company entrepreneur and son of Maine US Senator Angus King, with 8.2%.
Navy veteran and former US Assistant Secretary of State Bobby Charles (37.3%) and businessman Benjamin Midgley (20.3%) lead the first round of the Republican primary, followed by Jonathan Bush (20%) and five other contenders under 11.3%
US House: Both of Maine's congressional districts are held by Democrats: Nine-term Congresswoman Chellie Pingree in the Southern Coastal region's First Congressional District, and four-term Congressman Jared Golden in the northern, rural Second District.
CD-2: In the swing District where Golden is retiring, former Governor Paul LePage was unopposed in the Republican primary, but the Democratic nominee is to be determined.
In the first round of voting, State Senator Joseph Baldacci (31.6%) and political operative Jordan Wood (29.2%) secured the top two slots, followed by Maine State Auditor Matthew Dunlap (28.9%) and social worker Paige Loud (10.3%).

SOUTH CAROLINA
Primary Elections: US Senate, US House, Governor, Attorney General, state Executive offices, State House.
US Senate: Four-term Republican Senator Lindsey Graham fended off a challenge by businessman Mark Lynch, 56.8%-28.9%, with four other candidates under 5.3%. He will face pediatrician and public health advocate Annie Andrews, who won the Democratic nomination with 61.5% to Brandon Brown's 30.2%.
Governor: In the race to succeed Republican Governor Henry McMaster, Lt. Governor Pamela Evette (28.9%), who has Trump's endorsement, and state Attorney General Alan Wilson (26.1%) are going to a June 23 runoff.
The winner will face State Representative Jermaine Johnson, who won the Democratic primary with 59.7%, defeating businessman Billy Webster (29.7%) and trial attorney Mullins McLeod (10.7%).
Attorney General: In the competitive Republican primary to succeed state Attorney General Alan Wilson, state senator Stephen Goldfinch (40%) and Eighth Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo (35.7%) have advanced to a June 23 runoff. David Roscoe secured 24.3%. The winner will face attorney Richard Hricik, who was uncontested in the Democratic primary.
US House: Republicans hold six of South Carolina's seven congressional districts. The lone Democrat is 17-term Congressman James Clyburn, who holds the Columbia and Charleston-based Sixth District.
CD-1: The only competitive primary is in the Charleston-based first CD being vacated by Republican Nancy Mace, who ran unsuccessfully in the gubernatorial primary.
Republicans Charleston County Councilwoman Jenny Costa Honeycutt (22.1%) and State Representative Mark Smith (18%) surpassed nine other contenders to advance to a runoff. The Democratic nomination is also going to a runoff between retired Navy Vice Admiral Nancy Lacore (36.5%) and attorney Mac Deford (28.9%), who topped a seven-candidate field.

NEVADA
Primary Elections: US House, Governor, State Executive Offices, State House, State Supreme Court, Municipal, Ballot Measures
Governor: Democratic State Attorney General Aaron Ford handily won his party's nomination with 63.8% to take on Governor Joe Lombardo (R) in the top targeted race.
Lt. Governor: In the race to take on incumbent Stavros Anthony, State Assemblymember and Majority Floor Leader Sandra Jauregui carried the Democratic primary with 59.8%.
US House: Democrats hold three of Nevada's US House seats, with the state's 2nd CD held by eight-term Republican Mark Amodei, who is retiring.
CD-2: In the historically red district, Air Force veteran David Flippo, who was endorsed by Trump, overcame 12 other contenders to win the Republican primary with 45.9%. Flippo will face former Democratic Assembly Majority Leader Teresa Benitez-Thompson, who defeated 10 other opponents to win the nomination with 45.9%.
CD-3: In the competitive swing district, four-term Democratic incumbent Susie Lee won renomination with 69.3% of the vote. Lee faces Trump-endorsed video game music producer Marty O’Donnell, who won the Republican nomination with 42.3%.
NORTH DAKOTA
Primary Elections: US House, State Executive Offices, State Senate, State House, Municipal
US House: in North Dakota's At-Large congressional district, first-term Republican Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak will be challenged by Navy veteran, high school teacher and 2024 Democratic nominee for the seat, Trygve Hammer, who was uncontested in the primary.
