DemDaily: Tonight’s Debate Download!
September 10, 2024
In the second general election debate of the 2024 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will go face-to-face tonight in what is expected to be one of the most-watched political debates in modern history.
As with the first debate between President Joe Biden and Trump, the consequences could profoundly impact the course of the November election -- now just 55 days away.
The revised format of the debate -- originally agreed upon between Biden and Trump -- was green-lighted just days ago after extensive negotiations between the newly minted opposing camps.
The showdown, hosted by ABC, is being held in Philadelphia's National Constitution Center.
| Pennsylvania, with its 19 electoral votes, is among the most critical of seven battleground states that will decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. According to an August 30-September 8 Morning Consult poll of likely voters, Harris is leading Trump 49%-46% in the Keystone State (MOE: +/-2%). |

• Candidates will be provided a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water, but no props or pre-written notes will be permitted on stage.
• No opening statements; closing statements will be two minutes per candidate.
• Candidates will have two-minute answers to questions, two-minute rebuttals, and one extra minute for follow-ups, clarifications, or responses.
| After winning the September 3 coin flip, Trump chose to deliver his closing statement last, and Harris selected the right podium position on screen (stage left). |
