DemDaily: The Key to The Elections: Women

September 16, 2022

Women account for 51% of the voting population and are registering in record numbers across the country in what may be the most consequential election in modern history.

To lift up their critical role in the elections and the issues at stake, the Women's Leadership Forum (WLF), an arm of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), is holding its annual conference in Washington, DC on September 30th.

The day-long event, headlined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Hillary Rodham Clinton, will feature special guests and speakers:

Actress and producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas
DNC Chair Jaime Harrison
Honorable Marcia Fudge
Celinda Lake, Lake Research Partners
A'shanti Gholar, EMERGE
Josie Rose Caballero, National Center for Transgender Equality Fund
Glynda Carr, President & CEO, Higher Heights for America
Mia Ives-Rublee, Disability Justice Initiative, Center for American Progress
DNC Coalitions and Community Engagement Director Brencia Berry
DNC Director of Civic Engagement and Voter Protection Reyna Walters-Morgan
DNC States Director Ramsey Reid

The mission of the Women's Leadership Forum (WLF) is to raise women's voices and influence by serving as the Democratic Party's centralized hub for activism, information, and fundraising for Democratic women.

Founded in 1993 by Hillary Clinton, Tipper Gore, and 36 women trailblazers, WLF was established to ensure women have a seat at the table at the DNC and were recognized as a key constituency of the Democratic Party.

What started out primarily as a finance council for women to elevate their voices by raising funds, now exists as a way to amplify women’s voices within the party.

The WLF works to close the gender gap as a fundraising force, with women now accounting for 60% of all funds donated to the DNC. In turn, they provide a platform for engaging women at the grassroots, policy and national leadership levels.

Throughout each cycle, the WLF organizes regional and national events, including policy and platform discussions, trainings, and networking opportunities, as well as regular informational briefs, talking points, and rapid response information.

WLF is led by Director Emma Rosenthal and a Steering Committee including Cynthia Friedman, Virginia McGregor, Regina Montoya, Carol Pensky, Diane Robertson, Diane Robertson and Ursula Terrasi.
