DemDaily: The 2023 Election Calendar! Updates

April 21, 2023

The elections of 2023 are well underway, providing an ongoing test of the mood of the electorate ahead of the 2024 presidential year.

Nine major mayoral races were held April 4, led by Chicago, where Cook County Board of Commissioner Brandon Johnson scored an upset victory over fellow Democratic Paul Vallas.

In Denver, former Metro Chamber of Commerce President Kelly Brough (D) and former State Senator Mike Johnston (D) advanced to a June 6 runoff from a field of 22 candidates.

April 4 also saw the victory of Circuit Court Judge Janet Proteasiewicz over conservative former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly in the critical Wisconsin Supreme Court election that gave liberals the majority on the court.

There are three gubernatorial races up in 2023 -- in Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi -- as well as legislative, mayoral, municipal, judicial, and/or local elections in nearly 40 states.
