In Saturday's Special Election for Texas' Sixth Congressional District, Republicans Susan Wright and Jake Ellzey advanced to a July 27th runoff election for the seat held by Congressman Ronald Wright (R), who passed away in February after contracting the coronavirus.

Susan, who is Wright's widow, and who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, came in first with 19.1%, followed by State Representative and 2018 candidate Jack Ellzey with 13.85%.

Democrat Jana Lynne Sanchez came in third in the 23-candidate May 1st Special Election with 13.39%, a mere 354 vote difference.

Sanchez conceded the race on Sunday, thanking volunteers, staff and supporters, saying, "Democrats have come a long way toward competing in Texas but we still have a long way to go."

A number of mayoral elections also took place in the Lone Star State on Saturday where candidates run as nonpartisan but usually identify with a party.

In Arlington, Texas, Jim Ross (R) captured 47% of the vote and Michael Glaspie (D), with 21%, will advance to the June 5th run-off.

In the Fort Worth mayoral, Deborah Peoples (D), with 33%, and Mattie Parker (R), with 31%, will go to a runoff the same day.

In San Antonio, Mayor Ron Nirenberg (D) was elected to a third term as mayor with 62% of the vote.

There are two gubernatorial races, in New Jersey and Virginia, up in 2021, as well as at least four more special elections for US congressional seats and hundreds of mayoral, initiative, municipal and local elections up in 40 states.
