DemDaily: Real American Values
The debate around the convention and platform underscores the constant tug of war on messaging and the definition of what "our values" should be - as a party and as Americans.
What is not up for debate are issues that strike at the heart of working families: diversity, economic opportunity, preservation of pensions and social security.
Among the many organizations that strive to provide free tools to help candidates, political and community leaders, labor and activists frame and disseminate their message is Real American Values.
Those of us who value what the Labor Movement has created-the American middle class-realize that our opponents have a growing capacity to negatively impact public opinion about economic and social equality. The Labor Movement has to find new ways to get our message to the public and redefine the core values of the middle class."
-- Rick Bloomingdale, President, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO
