DemDaily: No Kings Day! Rise Up This Saturday
October 17, 2025
This Saturday, October 18, millions of people across the nation will rise up, united in protest of President Donald Trump's escalating authoritarian regime, and to remind him and the world that America has no thrones, no crowns and No Kings!
With over 2,600 events planned, the protest is expected to be the single biggest day of protest in American history -- with as many as 10 million people participating nationally and internationally.
Protests will take place in every state, blue and red, and from every sector of the population, as well as 20+ countries globally.
"No Kings" is not just a protest; it is a movement - unprecedented in history since the Civil Rights era -- building on over a dozen nationwide mass protests and hundreds of smaller demonstrations where courageous Americans have taken to the streets to reject Trump's assault on our democracy.
| This isn’t just politics. It’s democracy versus dictatorship. And together, we’re choosing democracy. |
In his quest for absolute power, Trump is sending militarized agents into our cities, terrorizing our communities, illegally abducting immigrant families, ignoring mass shootings at our schools, threatening to overtake elections, and rigging maps to silence voters.
His administration has gutted environmental protections, education, food assistance and healthcare for millions of our citizens -- while driving up the cost of living and handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies as families struggle. The government shutdown, held hostage to his ego, is now in its 17th day, costing the US economy $15 billion a day.
Congress and the courts have failed to rein in the President's power grab, but the power belongs to the people, who will hold him accountable.
The October 18 No Kings Day is mobilized by Indivisible, MoveOn, ACLU, Public Citizen, Common Cause, 5051 Movement, AFT, SEIU, National Nurses United, Human Rights Campaign, League of Conservation Voters and United We Dream who are part of a coalition of more than 200 national and state partners, alliances, and unions that have come together to help organize the event and the resistance.
Republicans like House Majority Leader Mike Johnson have branded the NoKings protest as “Hate America” rallies, suggesting participants would be “pro-Hamas” and “Antifa people.” Others, like Texas Governor Greg Abbott, have used the protest as justification to deploy the state’s National Guard to Austin ahead of this weekend, and a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) intelligence report sent to law enforcement agencies around the nation warned of the potential for violence at the demonstrations.
A core principle behind No Kings Day is a commitment to nonviolent action. All partners and event organizers have received training on protest preparation, how to de-escalate any potential confrontation and stay safe, and what their legal rights are as citizens and non-citizens.
