DemDaily: Meet Me in St. Louis. The DNC Fall Meeting

October 6, 2023

Democrats descended on the City of St. Louis, also known as the "Gateway to the West" this week for the Fall meeting of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

The bi-annual gathering brings together the roughly 450 members of the DNC, most of whom are elected at the local level from each state, DC, the Territories and Democrats Abroad to discuss party business.

The four-day event kicked off with Wednesday's convening of the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC), the arm of the national party that focuses on building, supporting and empowering all 57 State Democratic Parties.

Thursday and Friday's agenda focused on caucuses that represent the party's core constituencies like AAPI, Black, Hispanic, Women, LGBTQ and Native American, and councils that are organized around issues and communities like Labor, Veterans, Rural, Disability and the Environment, among others.

In addition to regional caucuses, key budget, rules and resolutions committees met in preparation for Saturday's General Session where the DNC as a body will vote on party business -- and where most of the newsworthy action takes place.

Overall the Fall meeting has gone smoothly - with Democrats still basking in the glow of the 2022 midterm elections that defied the anticipated "red wave," and the historic and very public chaos that has subsequently erupted among divisions within the Republican Party.

The highlight to-date was this afternoon, when Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage during the Women's Caucus meeting and rallied an enthusiastic audience alongside former DNC Chair Donna Brazile.

Saturday, however, will be the culmination of four days of hard work and the last formal gathering of the Party leadership before next year's August, 2024 nominating convention in Chicago, Illinois.
