DemDaily: In The Last Words of JFK
November 26, 2025
As a nation and a movement, we are at a pivotal point in the fight for our democracy. The words of those who paved the way before us often offer the inspirational wisdom of history in these most challenging of times.
As shared by historian Michael Beschloss, these are the last written words by President John F. Kennedy, scripted on cards for the end of a speech he intended to give in Austin, Texas, 61 years ago last week.
He never reached his destination, having been felled by an assassin's bullet in Dallas, Texas November 22, 1963.
"Neither the fanatics nor the fainthearted are needed. And our duty to our Party is not to our Party alone, but to the nation, and indeed, to all mankind. Our duty is not merely the preservation of political power but the preservation of peace and freedom.
So let us not be petty when our cause is so great. Let us not quarrel amongst ourselves when our Nation's future is at stake.
Let us stand together with renewed confidence in our cause -- united in our heritage of the past and our hopes for the future -- and determined that this land that we love shall lead all mankind into new frontiers of peace and abundance." - President John F. Kennedy

During this Thanksgiving holiday, let us all take a moment to reset with renewed conviction and focus on the path forward. At times like this, we must remind ourselves that we are still fortunate to be Americans, first and foremost, and together, we are stronger.
