DemDaily: Convention, Celebrities and Celebrations. The Update!

August 14, 2020

With just three days left until the start of the 2020 Democratic Convention, the roll out of celebrities has been announced for what the party promises to be "the most creative, innovative and engaging program in history."

The Chicks, Billie Eilish and John Legend are among performers (Rolling Stone)

The all-star line up over four days of programming will include Leon Bridges, The Chicks, Common, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Billy Porter, Maggie Rogers, Prince Royce, Stephen Stills and more.

In the touted convention across America, the artists "will help us tell the story of where we are as a country today under Donald Trump's failed leadership, and the promise of what we can and should be with Joe Biden as president," said DNCC Program Executive Stephanie Cutter.

Celebrities and entertainers have long been visual and vocal players in politics, but in 2020 their engagement is at an all time high, with many promoting high-profile efforts to register and mobilize voters to the ballot box.

While the formal program is condensed to just two hours each night, there are official and unofficial events throughout the day. Check the DemList 2020 Convention Calendar for details!

The virtual "Uniting America" kicks off Monday with delegation meetings in respective states and DNC Caucus and Council meetings, and a series of Virtual Policy Roundtables held throughout the day.

Other party committees, organizations and advocacy groups are also holding virtual trainings, policy discussions and events with elected officials, prominent public voices and their own celebrated guests.

The National Anthem will be sung by the Commonwealth Youthchoirs, with young people from each of the 57 states and territories

The "pre-gavel" program will start an hour before the formal convention program, and will include battleground state speakers, along with pre-convention programs from some of the two dozen Biden coalition groups, followed by watch parties during the main program.

The main program will run from 9:00pm-11:00pm EDT each night and will combine taped segments interwoven with live speakers and performers beaming in from satellite cities, locations and landmarks across the country.
